GRE – Financial requirements

Coming to 3rd year, I hope all of us would have decided what to do after completing the UG course.

This post just gives some non-technical info about financial requirements and other stuff involved in GRE. All these info where obtained from seniors since they were absent in their blog. The reason they dint specify was because these requirements may vary largely from one university to another. Lets begin!

1.Applying costs:

According to Vijay anna’s blog we need to apply atleast for 10 universities. So for every university we need approx 5000 INR and so in total 50000 INR. This may vary between 50-60k

2.Test fees:

To write GRE once we need 180$(= 9000INR)

3.VISA requirements(financial):

In order to obtain Visa :

i)worst case – no aid

  • liquid cash (bank balance etc) : 20 lakhs
  • assets (kinda investments parents make, like property) : 20 lakhs

ii)average case – aid not confirmed

  • liquid cash (bank balance etc) : 10 lakhs
  • assets (kinda investments  parents make, like property) : 20 lakhs

iii)best case – aid confirmed

  • no requirements 🙂

The Visa requirements are one thing that very few are aware of! So just take that into account and plan investments accordingly. It is not a big issue if we manage getting an aid 🙂
